Of all native European tree species, from the Urals in Russia to the Gulf of Cadiz in our Iberian Peninsula, the forest species that produce the most expensive and valuable timbers of all the European Continent are: SORBUS LATIFOLIA (Fontainebleau service tree) and SORBUS DOMESTICA (Whitty Pear, Service tree), They are closely followed by SORBUS TORMINALIS (Wild Service tree). These trees are followed in economic importance by: (Vosges Whitebeam, Mougeot's Whitebeam) and SORBUS ARIA (Whitebeam tree).

Thus, the Iberian native tree species that reach a higher prize in carpentry and luxury cabinetmaking are the Service and Whitebeam trees –from the SORBUS genus- and not other native species or genera.

This genus is followed by commercial importance by: JUGLANS REGIA (Walnut tree) as long as the trees are not hybrids, grafted or agricultural varieties PYRUS PYRASTER (Wild Pear), PRUNUS AVIUM (Wild Cherry tree), SORBUS AUCUPARIA (Rowan, Mountain Ash), SORBUS HYBRIDA (Oakleaf Mountain Ash) and MALUS SYLVESTRIS (Wild Apple tree).
